What is the Selangor Accelerator Programme?

The Selangor Accelerator Programme (SAP) is a structured 4-month programme that aims to assist startups in the early stage, defined as startups that have not gone for Series A funding. The SAP wishes to help these budding startups in polishing not only their product and business, but their core team as well, through classes and mentors that will share knowledge, experience, and advice that will help the teams with their soft skills and pitching styles as well.

The SAP also acts as a gateway for startups to prepare themselves for the international pitching competition to be held later this year, Selangor International Pitch, which will be held during the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention, for a grand cash prize of RM100,000.

When do applications begin?

Submissions can be sent anytime from the 5th of February to the 20th of March. The application date has been extended! Aspiring applicants have until 11.59PM of the 1st of April to register!

How do we join?

Click here. Please prepare a PDF copy of your startup’s Form 9 (Certificate of Incorporation) or Form D (Certificate of Registration of Business), as well as a 90-second pitch video telling us why we should choose you to take part in the SAP. The video should tell us about your team, your product, the market opportunities, traction/performance, and impact. The video has to feature at least one of the two people representing the company. Please also include a 5-page pitch deck in PDF format to be included as well.

Do we need to pay any fees to join?

Nope. In fact, teams not only stand a chance to win prizes from the SAP, but stand a chance to move on to pitch at Selangor International Pitch for a grand cash prize of RM100,000.

What do we need to join the SAP? Who can join?

While all tech startups are welcome, startups working on Emerging Technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT), as well as on Smart City and e-Commerce technologies will be given more consideration during the application process.

However, the startup has to be:

  • A startup incorporated in Malaysia
  • An early stage (pre-Series A) startup established less than 3 years ago
  • Have a MVP or Beta version of their offering
  • Able to demonstrate quantitative evidence of market traction (in the form of users, monthly sales, etc)
  • Able to commit two members to join the programme (Two co-founders, or the founder and a core member)
  • Able to commit to the 4-month long programme of weekend classes

Are we allowed to submit more than one application?

Yes. However, do take note that only one application will be selected in the event of multiple applications.

When/how will we be notified if our company/project makes the shortlist?

On the 9th of April, the 30 shortlisted companies will be notified by email, sms, or phone call.
