The Final Demo Day of the Selangor Accelerator Programme 2018 (SAP2018), held on the 13th of September during the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), saw the Top 10 startups of the programme duking it out for cash prizes of RM6,000 for each of the Top 5, as well as the opportunity to pitch during the Selangor International Pitch 2018.
The Top 10, which had been decided during the SAP Demo Day on the 7th of July, pitched in front of an audience and a panel of judges to determine the Top 5 among their number. The Top 10 were:
The panel of judges, consisting of Dr Lau Cher Han, founder of LEAD; Xelia Tong, CIP300 vice-president and head of the Angel Tax Incentive Office (ATIO) at Cradle Fund; and Ben Lim, general partner of NEXEA, were treated to a front row seat as the 10 teams gave their pitches, each demonstrating just how far they have come in the past four months of the programme.
After a tough deliberation, the judges came to a decision, naming Dropee, Firegent, HOMA, Kwikcar, and Rtist as the Top 5 of SAP2018. YB Dato Teng Chang Khim, Selangor State Executive Councilor, accompanied by Yong Kai Ping, chief executive of the Selangor Information Technology and E-Commerce Council (SITEC) stood as the guest of honour to present the prizes to the Top 5.
The Selangor Accelerator Programme, held for its inaugural run in 2018, saw 70 submissions, from which 30 were shortlisted to participate in the programme, undergoing months months of training workshops, and lessons which included three personalised pitching clinic sessions each, for a total of 81 sessions with a group of six mentors each session, 22 intensive classes, workshops and breakout sessions, visits to several local industry leaders, as well as over 250 mentor sessions collectively.
The culmination of their months of training was the SAP2018 Demo Day, held at Top Glove Tower on the 7th of July. There, the 30 qualifiers pitched to a panel of judges, showing the results of their training and hard work, for the judges to narrow them down to the Top 10, who would each be awarded a trip to China to visit the Incubator Hub at Tsinghua University, while taking part in pitching events to potential investors and partners in China.
