The Makers’ Studio at the Selangor Digital Creative Centre (SDCC) now features the Arus Academy, who will be managing the space in collaboration with the Selangor Information Technology and E-Commerce Council (SITEC), and will be running events and courses at SDCC.

The Arus Academy, which aims to improve IT literacy amongst students, especially those less-privileged, was founded towards the end of 2014 in Penang by a team of four educators, with each having spent at least two years working with Teach For Malaysia. Alina Amir, Felicia Yoon, Daniel Russel, and David Chak come from a variety of backgrounds, such as actuarial science, mechanical engineering, and psychology.

The Arus Academy encourages innovation and real-world problem solving, and have their own mission of helping the less-privileged as well. Among the activities that have been held by this social enterprise are programming and technical skills classes as well as courses on engineering design and project management, which have led to innovations among their students, some of whom have won a trip to Silicon Valley to pitch their product.
